Video Files
Throughout this site you will see many opportunities
to watch a small video clip. The video clips are provided
in RealMedia format and use the RealPlayer to display.
Nearly all users should be able to watch them, if you
are having a problem then it may be because your browser
does not already have the RealPlayer plug-in. The section
below is designed to answer any questions you have and
assist if necessary.
Why do we offer files in RealMedia format? see
alternative video formats here
RealMedia is available to anyone free of charge and
is widely used throughout the Internet. The files generally
load and play faster than other formats. The total file
size is often smaller than other formats, size is a
consideration.
How do I view the RealMedia video format on my computer?
The video clips are available embedded into the webpages
and for download onto your computer. You will need RealPlayer
installed onto your computer. It is most probable that
you will already have this but if not, or you need to
upgrade to the latest version, then use the link below
Download

Download the file into a convenient directory on your
computer. When the download is complete double-click
on the file to open and follow the instructions. It
is always best to restart your computer after such an
install. You should also ensure that your Operating
System and Browser are up-to-date.
Should I download the video file?
Browser support varies for embedded video, although
it is getting better. If you are having problems then
downloading the file and playing it directly with your
RealPlayer would be a good solution. Downloading the
file also means that you can archive the video clips
for future reference or transfer them to a portable
device for viewing later.
Why does RealPlayer keep stopping, and then start playing
again after a while?
The most common reason for this is high Internet traffic.
RealPlayer will buffer (load into memory) a certain
portion of the file before it begins to play. Then as
it plays, it continues to receive more of the file into
the buffer. If it can't replenish fast enough, the file
will stop playing as RealPlayer keeps trying to buffer
more data. There is a setting you can check in your
player, under "View", "Preferences",
"Connection". The "Buffered play"
option is best set to "Buffer entire clip up to
available memory." The player usual comes defaulted
to this setting, but it's worth checking if you're having
problems. You might also consider downloading the file
and playing it directly from your c: drive. This way
you're not competing against other Internet traffic
as it plays!
Why should I upgrade to the latest version of RealPlayer?
The free RealPlayer 10.5 is the first product that integrates
Real's revolutionary new Harmony technology. RealPlayer
enables consumers to buy and download music that plays
on more than 100 portable devices, including the Apple
iPod. RealPlayer is the only digital-media player you
