Koh Sumui is an island under a blue tropical sky, with
a sapphire blue ocean from the Gulf of Thailand,
gently washing onto clean sandy beaches. It is Thailand's
third largest island and can be reached by jet from Bangkok
in under an hour.
Ko Samui
includes fine international restaurants, vibrant nightlife
and shopping. Amongst the activities available there are five
star luxury spas, golf courses, jet skiing, sailing and some
of the best diving facilities anywhere in the world. Samui
has become a choice destination in Asia, a tropical island
lined with coconut palms and white sandy beaches.
All factors added together make Koh Samui a 'must visit'
destination.
The local population is around 48,000, is mainly Buddhist
and very friendly. Until the recent increase of tourism, coconut
farming and fishing were the main sources of income. The island
still exports around 2 million coconuts per month, most of
which are
picked by trained monkeys. Samui also has numerous modern,
well equipped hospitals and clinics.
The last few years has seen the emergence of top class resorts,
restaurants and a championship golf course. This is now a
fashionable haven for affluent visitors, especially from Hong
Kong, Singapore and other business centers of close proximity.
Believed to be in the top five islands in the world to live,
there is also a healthy demand from
the wealthy seeking a permanent island home coupled with a
sound investment.
The
real estate market in Samui is booming, both for raw land
and villas/apartments. The focus on the type of land sought
has shifted from beach land to sea view. This is mainly due
to supply shortages of quality beach land and the realisation
of beautiful inland scenery with spectacular views. Buyers
mostly now seek low density developments, offering fine sea
views along with safe access roads and full management services.
