Jomtien and Pattaya
Jomtien and Pattaya are located 140 km southeast of
Bangkok on the eastern seaboard of the Gulf of Thailand.
Pattaya has a population of approximately 65,000 people and
annually attracts over one million holiday makers. With Bangkok
only a two hour drive away, Pattaya can be accessed by the
Bangkok Chonburi Motorway and with completion due soon
of the new Suvarnahumbi International Airport this journey
time will be cut to less than one hour.
Pattaya, synonymous with palm fringed sandy beaches,
traditional culture and family atmosphere has forged a reputation
as one of the most desirable locations in Asia. Apart
from beautiful beaches, there is endless shopping in the many
shopping malls and markets, hundreds of restaurants and bars
to cater for every taste and accommodation ranging from affordable
B & Bs to 5 Star Hotels all offering real
value for money.
Sport and recreation is now a major focus in this part
of Thailand with golf fast becoming one of the most popular
tourist attractions. There are over 20 Championship Golf
Courses within a 30 minute drive from Pattaya, designed
by some of the greatest names in golf such as Jack Nicklaus,
Gary Player and Nick Faldo. Many of the courses are 27 and
36 hole layouts and all offer incredible value for money.
In addition to golf there is shooting, bungee jumping, water
ski-ing, go-karting, tennis, fishing, horse riding and elephant
riding. There are also numerous small flying clubs dotted
around that offer learn to fly courses at very reasonable
prices.
Things to do:
For complete relaxation, a visit to the Kings Temple of
Wat Yan is recommended. Within this huge area of natural
beauty are pagodas and temples, waterfalls, fountains and
lakes, a complete paradise within itself and this is situated
just a few hundred yards away from the Royal Phoenix development.
Eating out is what the Thai people do as a matter of course
and there are hundreds of deliciously smelling food stalls
that seem to appear from nowhere and cost very little to try
what the locals eat, or go to any one of the countless restaurants
and pay only a few baht more. There is food for all tastes
in cosmopolitan Pattaya and the choice as diverse as any major
city in the world, from simple cuisine to a`la carte.
Jomtien and Pattaya have exceptionally long palm lined
beaches where loungers are sensibly priced and a Thai
massage under the shade of a palm tree is an inexpensive luxury
in a tranquil setting.
Jomtien also offers a family theme park with water
shoots and abseiling part of the attractions that will keep
both adults and children absorbed for hours.
The investment into the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport is a clear indication of a centralised focus on this region in Thailand which has the sole purpose of making it extremely accessible for business and tourism. The government’s strategy has already created an enormous interest internationally which will, in turn, have an immediate positive effect on this already popular region.
